Biography
Alabama rapper Big Yavo brings a vocal approach that blends hardness with playfulness, packing dense layers of lines and swift punch lines while avoiding an overly earnest tone. Though exuberant and only occasionally sharply aggressive, he favors self-described “turn-up songs” that emerge through freestyling instead of prior composition, allowing him to build compelling stories on the spot. Viewing rapping more as a pastime than a profession, he has nevertheless issued a steady stream of mixtapes, among them the 2021 Billboard-charting On God II, and has notched viral successes via tracks such as “No Pen,” “Him,” and “Rich.” His 22-track album The Largest surfaced in 2022, with Proof arriving the following year and The Giant landing in 2024.
He first recorded under the name 41st Yavo, a nod to his Birmingham street address, and began uploading tracks and clips to YouTube in 2019 before adopting the moniker Big Yavo in early 2020. After signing with Cinematic Music Group, he launched his output with the single “No Pen” and dropped On God, the collaborative Gorilla Warfare alongside Luh Soldier, and Dumb Ass that same year. On God II followed in 2021, highlighted by Wiz Khalifa’s contribution to the “Hotbox (Remix),” reached the Top Ten of Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, and spawned the TikTok dance phenomenon “Rich.” Subsequent release Like Yay spotlighted the widely streamed “Him,” while 2022 singles encompassed the slower, more vulnerable “Fronted” alongside “Lumberjack,” “Cabbage Patch,” and “Yayski.” The full-length The Largest appeared in November and featured Bankroll Freddie, TLE Cinco, and Rylo Rodriguez. Proof arrived in 2023, accompanied by later singles “Jet Lee” and “Bite,” before The Giant, carrying appearances from Hunxho and Peewee Longway, emerged in 2024.
